White Perch Fishing Tips for Lake Sam Rayburn

The white perch fishing on Lake Sam Rayburn in Jasper, Texas is excellent. Many anglers travel to this large manmade lake to fish for these fish. In this lake the white perch must be ten inches in length in order for it to be a keeper. You know they say things are bigger in Texas.

The white perch in this lake will generally be found in waters that are sixteen to twenty five feet deep. This is their favorite depth and they will almost always be located near brushy tops that are submerged or near stumps that provide a good habit for the bait fish that they prefer.

During the winter months you will find the highest concentration of these fish on the north end of the lake in the shallower waters there. When springtime comes they will be easily found on the moss beds and starting to migrate towards the southern portion of the lakes waters. By mid-summer you will find them heavily concentrated on the south end of the lake. This is about the same time that the bream arrive to this end of the lake in mass.

You can use a roadrunner lure during the time that the fish are on the moss beds and have a great deal of success. A lot of people only fish for these fish using jigs, but the majority of people use live minnows to catch the white perch.

They can be a little bit picky so you want to make certain that the minnows you have or less than three inches in length. The larger minnows seem to cause the fish to leave instead of attract them, although if you have some larger minnows in your live well, you can simply drop your line a little deeper, and use it to fish for a big old catfish.

White perch are drawn to the submerged tree tops and brush because that is where the natural bait fish can be found. Minnows and the small sunperch can be found in these types of habitats and the perch feed on the minnows and smaller perch. Anywhere there are a lot of bream and minnows there will also be a lot of catfish.

If you decide to catch minnows from the lake and use those as bait remember that the minnow with the red spot on his tail is protected. These are rare to find but they can get you a ticket.
