Tips on Baiting a Catfish Hole in a Lake
There is probably nothing more fun than reeling in a big catfish. These fish have plenty of fight and they are considered to be one of the best fish to eat. One thing that people who fish for catfish know is that if you want to be sure you get to catch plenty of these delicious fish you should bait up the hole where you will be fishing.
If you are fishing for the larger catfish then you want to bait a hole that is located in deeper waters. You want to find a place that has deep water but the hole should also come out into waters that contain a lot of brush. The game fish like the bluegills that the catfish love to eat will be found hiding in the brush so this makes a good place for the catfish to be located.
One method that is used regularly is for you to get a large net bag like the ones that crawfish come in from the market. Put a heavy rock in the bag so that it will sink to the bottom of the hole and then put you about twenty pounds of the cheapest dog food that you can buy in the bag. Tie the top of the bag and drop the bag into the hole that you want to fish in. You need to bait the hole around twenty four hours before you want to fish to give the baited bag time to attract the game fish which in turn attract the catfish.
Remember that catfish are bottom dwellers and when you do go to fish for them Nightcrawlers, liver, crawfish, shrimp, blood bait, minnows, and just about anything you can put on your hook will attract them, just fish close to the bottom of the lake. It is best if you allow your hook to sink to the bottom and then reel it up two to three rounds and wait for the catfish to come.
There are other good baits that you can use to bait up a catfish hole. Cottonseed cake is a very good substance to use to attract the fish. What you are really trying to do is attract the bait fish like the natural minnows and the perch. The catfish will come to where these game fish are and you will have a blast reeling them in the next day.
