Stocking Your Tackle Box with Lures

The first thing you must know when you are going to attempt to stock your tackle box with lures is that it takes a lifetime to collect all of the lures and gadgets that you see the anglers using. They do not go and purchase all of these items at one time. For one thing that would financially be very expensive and for another thing new lures are being invented all of the time and when an angler hears that the fish are responding well to one particular lure they purchase one of them for themselves to try them out.

The second thing you must think about is the type of fishing you will be doing the most often. Fishermen generally have certain fish that they really like to fish for. They may fish for other varieties but on average they will set out to catch the same type of fish. So a bass fisherman needs different tackle from the catfish angler, and the angler that prefers saltwater fishing needs completely different tackle and lures from the angler that prefers to fish in the freshwaters.

Next you need to set a limit on the amount of money that you are going to allow yourself to spend on the artificial lures and the tackle on this trip. You can quickly get caught up in the shopping at a bait and tackle shop and the next thing you know you have spent way more money than you really should have. If you set a limit you will be more apt to pay attention to the prices of the lures and tackle you are selecting and less likely to just fill a cart with impulse buys.

You want to make sure that you have some top water lures that are popular in the area where you fish the most often. You also want some spinning baits and some crank-baits that have proven to be successful to anglers in your area. The shop keeper will more than likely be glad to advice you on which of the lures are currently selling well. Make certain that you get some weighted jig heads and a variety of tails in different color combinations. You will more than likely also want to throw in some plastic worms if you like to fish for bass.

Remember to include some type of scissor or clippers in your tackle box as well as a pair of needle nose pliers.
