Good Baits for Catching Bass

Bass are one of the most fished for species of fish. Anglers love to try and catch the different species of bass and every different angler will tell you different baits that they think are the best for catching bass. In part this is because the fish respond to different types of bait at different times of the year.

Bass respond to live bait like minnows very well. Of course some people will say this is not true but live baits are what the fish eat from the waters they are in. So minnows, worms, crawfish, and other live bait specimens that can be found naturally in the waters where the fish live will all work very well. Sometimes you will discover that the live bait works when nothing else does.

All bass fishermen have some type of crankbait in their arsenal of fishing supplies. A crankbait can be fashioned from plastic, and from metal, and there are even wooden versions of these fishing lures. The main thing you will notice about the crankbait is they are designed to have a large flat lip on the front. When the reel is turned to make the line move this wide lip on the front of the lure allows the lure to dive down in the water, and then to come up in the water, more like the natural movements that the live bait fish would make. The deeper that you want your lure to fish determines the size of the bill you want the lure to have. The larger the bill the deeper they dive.

Another thing you are sure to find in every tackle box of every bass fisherman is a spinnerbait. A spinnerbait has a set of blades attached to an artificial lure that spins like the propeller on a plane when the reel is causing the line to move. The movement of these spinning blades catches the eye of the bass and sometimes the spinning blades will even make a little noise that catches the fish’s attention. Bass generally pounce when they strike something like this. They do not generally nibble at their food they inhale it with gusto and that is why the artificial lures work so well on this particular type of fish.

You will notice when you are fishing for bass that most of the artificial lures are made to resemble live bait that you would find in the area.
