Fishing for Crabs with Nets
Crabs are a delightful delicacy that people can fish for with little to no experience and almost no cost involved. You can catch crabs with nothing more than a piece of string that has an old chicken neck, wing, or back tied to the end with a weight. You throw the string out in the water and allow some slack to remain in the line. When the crab grabs the bait and begins to eat it they will pull the line taut and at that point you begin to ever so slowly reel the crab in by pulling the string. If you go to quickly the crab will let go of the bait but if you are patient and move with slow and careful movements you will net the creature. It is a lot of fun for the whole family to go to the coast and spend a day crabbing.
Crab nets are also popular things to use to catch these creatures with. The crab net will generally be made from a cotton string and at the top it will have a metal ring. The net is designed to collapse for storage and to extend when placed in the water. In the center of the net will be an area that will have a short length of twine that is meant for you to use to tie the bait in the net. Any type of chicken works although the boney necks and backs are favored more because the crabs have a harder time pulling the meat away from the bones. You may also use turkey necks to bait your traps and you can catch shad from the waters you are about to fish in and use them in the net.
Crab nets work best if you are fishing in an area where you are above the water like a steeper bank or from a bridge. You simply place the net into the water and wait a little while. Unlike the chicken on a string when you pull a crab net in do it in a quick motion so the crab does not escape before you get it on land.
These crab nets are generally very inexpensive and they are great for beginners to use. The chicken on a string takes some time and practice to become good at luring the crab to the shore and you have to be able to pull the crab in while netting him with the other hand.
